Compass Box is a music production house made for indie musicians of India, for their recording, producing and publishing needs
As part of Compass Box’s initiatives to promote independent talent, they produce high quality one take, live sessions for artists all across India for no cost, publishing them on YouTube. Fun fact, co-founder Dharun Vyas has been one of the artists featured in the series!
These live sessions are a platform for the artists to get an audience but also to build their confidence and provide them with a real opportunity, as part of it Compass Box decided to give all participating artists a token in the form of a t-shirt and tote bags.
For the t-shirts we designed two different concepts. For the first, we took inspiration from the Heinz ketchup bottles and branding, making the metaphor of a hot upcoming artist with hot sauce and the tagline “got the indie sauce”. The other design is more literal in nature and borrows visuals directly from a recording space with the front featuring a microphone and the back a tuner. The tote bags use the same designs.

Similarly, Unboxed was a songwriting campaign open to participants from all professional walks of life to give their music dreams a serious shot. It was a moment for singer-songwriters to come and write, and get a composed piece from founder-musician Raag Sethi, complete with publishing.
Raag wanted to give the participants a token to remember the event by, a t-shirt, tote bag and a notepad. The merchandise was intended to reflect the collaborative nature of the programme and the sense of experimentation that came with bringing different people and ideas into the same space to create something. The starting point for the visual concept was the relationship between community, collaboration, and food.
Ramen became the central metaphor as a symbol of different ingredients coming together and simmering to create one bowl of utter lyrical goodness.
We came up with the tagline “Let ‘em Cook”, setting up the ramen bowl not on a dining table but instead inside a classic vinyl case. The color palette was monochrome and directly borrowed from the branding of Compass Box Studio, to retain a connection to the brand for the participants.
